3rd day in nursary

She is doing well without caretaker in school. Whether I'm with her, she would stick stick to me and refused to play or listen to teacher. So, what I did on the 3rd day was dropped her in school, send her to the classroom, gets her settled down and I went off. Came back just before bath time, but it was bad. Once she saw me she cries, refused to do everything.. Don't want to bath, don't want to eat...

Auntie says "before u come, she was alright, went up and down without sound. Once I saw you, next moment I hear her cry... 撒娇. "

First day in Nursery

As we know, janelle having slow development and she started the Childcare with Playgroup which is 2 years below her age. After trial for 2 months, Janelle had teaches the Playgroup classmate with all bad habit like mouthing of things, walking around the classroom not paying attention as they are in the stage of imitating. So this year, tr suggested that janelle goes to the class that is at her age group (Nursery) where the classmates are more stable and able to understand better. Would give janelle a better example than the PG.

As a requirement, one caretaker will follows as janelle needs lots of hand over hand help which tr is not able to provide.

First day in Nursery, helper not yet in and mummy need to report to work to make necessary arrangement for the next 2 weeks, so daddy kick start the journey with janelle. However, Daddy hide himself in another room and she is doing very well without daddy and mummy. Good job, Sweetie!!! Tr Kelly saw me hiding at one corner checking on janelle during lunch, she says "Don't need to worry, today she has her eyes on the new teacher".

Today janelle is having Christmas celebration in school with teachers and classmates. They had a baking session where they bake and design a log cake. :)

Bought some chocolate for the children. Nowsaday Children are very smart. Usually the kids are very quiet or don't even want to talk to me. But today they saw me with Christmas gifts, they surrounded me and janelle, checking what gifts we have for them, hugging us.. Holding janelle's hand and walk her into the hall. :)




And here's the gift Janelle had received from school:




School organized a "Little Mr & Miss best dress" contest. So mommy woke up early to prepare her.. Changed her in at least 5 sets of dresses and realized she had outgrown those little pretty dresses or she is too skinny for SJ pass down. No choice, mummy mix and match from her normal wear. We didn't won the contest, but to me she looks pretty and cute no matter what she wear.

Janelle Childcare update

Another week ended, and it's also an end of term 4. She is better, but still no good. She still gets very cracky after 11am. Guess she is just too tired. Giving her some more time to adapt.

A new week in childcare..

VP told me that I need to let go and let the form teacher and my helper to take care of janelle. She need to get used to it. Hmm.. Ok, I try.

Day 4 in Childcare

Mummy was tasked to be one of the committee for thanksgiving + nov birthday celebration at work. And I'm charge of the food so I need to go into office to arrange the necessary. Was thinking to get my colleague to back me up, but hus assured that he took leave and will take care janelle in the childcare. And she will be fine.

At 930am, I called Hus to check on janelle. Hus told me that they are back at home, because janelle had a fall and a deep cut on her upper lip less than 1 min in school. He see janelle was unsettled and the bleeding wasn't able to stop so he brought her back home. My heart nearly dropped at work when I heard that. How to Trust a man on a simple task like this??

Don't wish to overwhelm her in a week, so giving her a day off from childcare on day5. Okok, I admit, its giving myself a day off. I had been applying leave to accompany her in childcare, and every time after her school I'm super tired and not able to concentrate on work. At working hours, busy with the team building and thanksgiving, I have a lot of backlog to clear and kanna additional workload. I need one day to concentrate and clear those. Dont wish to hang it there till next week.

ChildCare - Discovery Garden

Knowing Janelle's medical condition and with her delayed developmental, many mainstream childcare and playgroup and even Integrated Child Care Programme (ICCP) childcare had rejected our enrollment application. Finally, i found a childcare that willing to takes in Janelle and very near to my mom's place. She is now attending morning half day at Discovery Garden Childcare, taking one level lower than her age group and need to have my helper to be around to assist her on some activites which i'm fine. My main purpose is to gives her more exposure and spending more time doing things with a purpose instead of staying at home and play with self or pushing the chairs without a meaning. I'm not withdrawing her from EPIC at Rainbow Center as she still needs the Therapy sessions and Teachers with special needs trained to help her in many areas, and since she is now having school holiday, so i need to fill up some activities for her.

Preparation:
As Janelle rainbow center class are at 1pm, so we have been enforcing her to take nap twice a day. One at 10.30am to 12pm, another from 4pm to 5.30pm and her night time is from 10pm to 7pm. So, enrolling into childcare center means her napping time and EPIC class need to be move. Submitted to move her 2012 EPIC Class to 3.15pm to 5.15pm session and it's approved. And a week ago, i have started to move her nap time and the idea timing is 1pm to 3pm and night time from 9pm to 8am. It's not easy, she is not able to tahan till 1pm then nap, and she refused to go to bed at 9pm but slowly we are reaching.

Days in Discovery Garden
Day 1 - with mummy -

• Woke up by herself 8am



• very good.



• She enjoyed the morning exercises and sing-a-long session.



• At the end of the session, she even followed her classmate Queuing up for lunch. Able to follow the crowd.



• But she refused to have the lunch there.



• We leave early at about 12pm as dont wish to overwhelm her



• Was very tired and took 3 hrs nap which mess up my scheduled timing. And only to bed at 10pm.

Day 2 - without mummy -

• Mummy woke her up at 8.15am



• No good, had been very cranky



• Granny to her rescue at 11am, mama told me once she stepped out of the school, she was smiling and clapping her hands



• Refused to have lunch at 11am, went to nap immediately once reached granny place.



• She had stomach upset and diarrhoea for 3 times.



• Dinner at 5pm



• When mummy was home, she becomes very sticky... stick stick stick to mummy.



• When OT, she is good. Enjoying herself and has better responsive and awareness.



• Daddy put her to bed at 9pm

Day 3 - with mummy (half session)

• Better than Day 2



• Woke up at 7.30pm by herself.



• when mummy was around, she was very good. With mummy hand over hand, she joined in the morning exercise and outdoor activities happily.



• when mummy not around, helper feedbacked that she is a bit cranky



• Refused to have the lunch there again



• We stayed a little longer today, she brushed her teeth and bath there too.



• Once we reached home, she had half portion of her lunch crankily + a bottle of milk and nap.



• very sticky still... stick stick stick to mummy



• She was ok in the afternoon, she distrubing jiejie. Pushing chair and playing ok. But once she heard daddy voice, she becomes a cranky baby.



• refused to have dinner, mummy and daddy had to sing song to clam her down, carried under daddy arms and slowly feed her.



• Mummy put her to bed at 9pm

hmmm.. when writting this post, i'm thinking.
- Refused to have lunch - maybe by 11.30am, she is very tired. Dont feel like eating anymore. + without her Hi5... hmm, nothing i can do, i need her to adpot to this scheduled and removed her bad habit watching Hi5 with meals. Slowly, and i believe she can.
- Sticky, my colleague told me this is normal as her child (normal mainstream child) also behave the same way.
- Should i put her to bed early, so that she can has a longer night time? Will she?



Keeping my fingers and toes crossed and praying that she will be better.

2011 Children Day - Zoo Outing

If you noticed, Children’s Day has been moved from 1 Oct which we had grow up looking forward to this date to the first Friday of October (5th Oct 2011). From 2011, Children's Day will be celebrated on the first Friday of October, no longer 1st October in Singapore. Rainbow Center had organized a Children Day Outing to The Singapore Zoo. Hus requested me to bring Janelle there, to have more exposure in a crowd. This is the first time Janelle is joining the school outing, as i always worried about her nap time, meals etc etc... but this time, i think she is ready too.. Brought 2 adult tickets for myself and maid at a discounted price from rainbow, as not sure if hus would be in town anot, so i didn't get his. Should I say lucky Janelle, daddy is in town to bring her for her school outing. He got his ticket there from the zoo @ $19 ($20 with a 5% discount when used OCBC/UOB credit card).

And, Yes, she enjoyed the outing... she refused to take the pram and was running around the zoo. Following the teachers and children, it's very slow and we cant see much. So I told the teacher that we will bring Janelle to walk around in the zoo, we will meet them during snack time and animal shows time. It's really not easy for the teachers and volunteers to take care so many special needs children at one time. Each of them are tasked to 2 children. Usually those young ones will be accompanied with parents/helper.. so still manageable i guess.

If you wonder why only Janelle and Daddy, where's mommy and helper... We were there.. cos only mommy and helper wants to capture the moments down. Hus is not the person that will be the cameraman, he just want to be the model. Yes, he is very different from other daddy.. haha.. mommies was just too busy, carring bags, hankies, water and plan the route and time keeper... everytime after an outing, i will scold hus, see again, no pictures of mommy and janelle :(

Art & Craft for 2011 Semester 2

With the help of Helper and Teachers, Janelle did these for her art in school:

It had been a while that i sit in Janelle's class. Today i made it. It's so happy that seeing Janelle having improvement. During the OT, she managed to do things that the OT excepted her to do.. Seeing her having better response to the teachers and able to think before she acts.

After stopping for swim for about 4 weeks because of her flu. Today she is into the swimming pool. She loves it. You can heard her laughter and see her kicking and jumping in the water. That's really nice.

During the feeding, this is the first time i saw her feeding herself from fork. Just need a little help from teacher to pick up the fruits to the fork and she can bring it to her mouth and take away the fork from the mouth once she put the food in. Amd she can uses both hands. that's really very nice.












And when going down the stair, she has better balancing and knows that she need to move her hands to get the balancing. That's nice too. Next step is to let her hold on with 2 hands and come down herself. Looking forward to that.

Today, one of janelle's classmate was accompanied by his mom. Had a chat with her to find out more on how she improve her son's progress. her son is a downsyndrome child, but his improvement is so much better than Janelle. She told me she started Glenn Doman's program with him last june. within 7 months, he started to talk and can response to people. This make my interest to go and try. This program is quite expensive and not always available. Will depends on when he is coming to Singapore to hold the program. Will check it out.

She is not a baby anymore

Went to OT with Janelle yesterday.... And the OT had says something something which wake me up...

"SHE IS NOT A BABY ANYMORE... NO MORE HELP SHOULD BE PROVIDED.. ONLY BABY THAN WE GIVES HANDS TO HELP"










Yes, lesser help will be offer to her from now on.. she will need all kind of training to learn what she needs to learn..

I always hope that Janelle can walk on her own by 2.. so have been trying to do lots of things with within a short period of time.. the focus is not there... I'm going to change my strategy.. focus stay focus.. one at a time.. so now.. my focus is to improve her drooling.. and lots of mouth simulation I'm going to provide to her...

Tips provided by OT and SP
1. once see her drool, will need to tab dry and remind her to close her lips
2. give her some tasty drinks and let her feel her tongue and remind her to swallow
3. give her more opp to chew to train her mouth's mausle
4. Learning to use a straw for fluids can improve drooling.
5. reduce pacifier time

Buttercups/RCEIP Family Day

Today Janelle's School - Rainbow Centre - host a family day with Buttercups. All proceeds will go to the EIPIC fund for Rainbow Centre.

There are games, stores that sells toys, second hand clothing, books etc and stores setup for arts and crafts. All teachers included therapists from both schools contributed their commitment to the event. I think was nice, where children gathering around for some fun with families. I bought $10 worth of coupons for the family day. At first was thinking getting of coupons as a donation, but never though we can make it to the event. Together with Janelle, Hus and helper, we dropped by to have fun as Janelle refused to take her morning nap at my mother in law place. :)
