Speech Therapy

29th April 2010, Wednesday

We skipped the hydro-therapy and went for one to one speech therapy session. Teacher Dino monitored Janelle's feeding skill and had came out a home plan for her.

Plan, to control her drooling:
1. Massage: help to simulate the jaw muscle
2. Tools: to get some tools for her to chew more
3. feeding: feed her at the side of the spoon, and wait for her to take the initial to bring the food into the mouth
4. food: to give her more chewing food likes baby bites, bread

My poor niece

23th April 2010, Saturday

Today my elder niece lied to the family and didnt go for tution. Guessed the teacher complainted to her mom, so once she reached home she was canned by her mom.

When she came down, I saw all the cane marks on her back, her arms and her legs.. I think sil had done a bit too much. Yes, I agreed that at times canning will help. But I think she did a bit too much this much. Afterall this is first time and i believe there must be a reason she did that, shouldn't be asking the reason of her fear to go to tution instead of canning her like a mad person.

I see her like that always heart pain. Haiz.

epilepsy surgery

Spend another morning reading more on the epilepsy operation:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4719181.stm
http://www.med.nyu.edu/neurosurgery/epilepsy/conditions/benefits.html
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/story?id=7885128&page=1

let me list down some points for my consideration:

risk/facts:
  • "The scariest thing when you are operating on the brain is when you get bleeding that you can't control. Sometimes it gets very hairy."
  • There is also a risk that nearby brain structures that control functions such as speech and vision will be damaged.
  • developed a blood clot after the surgery
  • the extent of tissue that had to be removed, she has lost some peripheral vision and can no longer see things clearly to her right.
  • Epilepsy surgery is not considered unless seizures are not controlled with medications. The surgery has a likelihood of completely controlling the seizures from 50% to 95% of the time depending on the epilepsy syndrome treated and the operation performed.
  • The most important risk of epilepsy surgery is nonreversible injury to the brain due to intracranial hemorrhage (bleeding) or stroke. Infection is one of the most common complications, but unlike infection, stroke or hemorrhage most often leaves the patient with a neurological deficit that may be disabling. This complication occurs in about 1% of the craniotomies performed.
  • Though an individual seizure by itself is not very dangerous, recurrent seizures do represent important accumulated risks over time. If the summed risk of recurrent seizures over 5 or 10 years is considered, then the risk to serious injury resulting in permanent disability is probably well over 1% or 2%, and for some people with epilepsy this is even higher.
  • Temporal lobe epilepsy is the most thoroughly understood epilepsy syndrome. One kind of temporal lobe epilepsy called mesial temporal lobe epilepsy is the model for epilepsy surgery. People with medically refractory epilepsy who have mesial temporal lobe epilepsy can be offered up to a 95% chance of complete seizure control with a single surgical procedure called an anterior mesial temporal lobectomy (or sometimes referred to as amygdala-hippocampectomy.)
  • The most common problem once discharged from the hospital is wound infection.
  • "Sometimes, after general anesthetic, people have this honeymoon period where seizures go away. But then they come back,"

Speech Therapy

21st April 2010, Wednesday

Today Janelle had a special session with the speech therapy in her school. She was reviewed on her feeding and here's the comments from ST:

1. Janelle has very weak jaw muscle, hence she dont suck or chew
2. Janelle has very bad sitting position. Cant be stable

Things to do,

1. stop the ikea high chair, that's no good for Janelle cos there isn't foot rest hence she will keep her weight to one side.

Funny people

20th April 2010, Tuesday

Yesterday i received a message on facebook from my ex-bf's girlfriend.

We started the conversation without knowing that she is my ex's girlfriend.. i thought was some long-lost friends.

then i received "I just wan to tell u tat I became his gf for a while n suffered.. So need to knw why his parents have so much gd impression on u.. " of cos trying to be kind, so gave her some advice "suffered? i have no idea what he did that make you suffered... so i also cant comment much. but if you think that you are suffering, then must well let go.. no point wasting your youth on something that you are not happy with."

her reply was very promptly, is like within the next one hour or two, i will received her message.. feel something is not right, so didnt reply her...

then from her next few messages, got to know they already broke off.. funny right? broke off already still come and message me.. and me and him already over for so many years... no longer in contacted since years back.

she continued to message me without having my reply, then i realised her purpose "I just based on memory many yrs back when u r his gf n broke off cos he is a unfaithful..I feel sorry for u.. " childish... trying to go round and shoot me? kns.. but it's ok..

thanks god that that relationship ended.. now I'm happily married with a man who really love me and a pretty Janelle in my life.

Janelle's condition

17th April 2010, Saturday

Since day 1 of school starts for Janelle, her seizures get worst. Everyday she had seizures for a week plus. i have no choice but increase her drug dosage again and again.

frequency of her seizure:
January 2010 - once every 2-3 days
February 2010 - once every 2 weeks
march 2010 - once every week then every 2 days
April 2010 - once every day (10 days) then every 3 days.

recalling what i had done in feb that her frequency is not that much.. hmm.. i didnt do anything, was busy with moving into new house and CNY...

now praying that janelle can outgrow of her sickness real soon.. praying hard.

Today's class

16th April 2010, Friday

Today's jx class activities:

First swim lesson

14 April 2010, Wednesday

Janelle has her first swim lesson in school today. This is not a swimming lesson teaching jx how to swim. This is a hydro theraispy. lasted for abt 15 min. Teacher ima (jx teacher in charge) is very patience. First she bring janelle to the baby pool abt 0.3m, she let janelle sit on the stair and played water with jx before she slowly bring her into the pool.

In the pool, she made jx walked, take things and throw. As it is the pool, more affect from jx is required.

In the class, jx is kind of tired. Refused to crawl. Very cranky. No choice, I gave her pacifier n rested for 15min before continue with the class. Mummy expected that to happen, that y I brought her pacifier to class. :(

Guess this is not the right time...

11 April 2010, Sunday

This morning, hus fly off again to Korea.. Leaving Janelle with me in Singapore...

This weeks, "should i or should i not" had been in my mind running in and out.. up and down.. talked to my friends, families and collegues on this matter.. there are ppl who strongly encourage me, and also ppl who reasoned out for me.. and also ppl who discourage me.
Yesterday night, we had a long chat on whether if i should stay at home be a full time mom. We did our calculation, base on his salary alone, it is sufficient but had to let go of the helper.. no doubt, our monthly expenses is quite high.. electric and phone bills for 2 houses, a car, janelle medicine bills and school fees, household expenses and helper salary and levy, etc etc. so after our calculation, it is just nice, enough... and in order to have a little of saving, maid has to go...
wanted to go for a trial and see if it is ready okie for two months..

And also tried to take care of janelle over the weekend on my own.. wor.. it's not easy.. need to prepare and cook dinner while she was crying outside for accompany.. whole day is just janelle... and had to suit into her schedule.. she is too dependent.. she always needs someone to be around with her.. so when she sleep, then i can only do the housework, when she is around, i need to teach her, guide her and accompany her... maybe i'm not used to it, so i find it quite tough, and cant managed well on my trial day... but i believed, once i get the hang of it, it will be okie..

However, before we concluded... this question comes to my mind.. "what if janelle needs to go for surgery.. do we have enough?".. our answer is NO.. we know that it will not be a big problem if we need money for janelle, my dad and sil can take out for us.. but do we want that? take other ppl for janelle surgery... we as a parent dont even have that kind of money on hand...

after a long thoughts.. and we comes to a conclusion.. i will continue to work.. with this job..and working from home... till workforce reduction, which should be in another 6 more months or so. but i will go and talk to my lead and boss, i dont want to be #1.. #2 is fine with me.. and i will pay more attention to janelle... and save as much as we can...

Mummy tots

7th April 2010

Yesterday hus asked me to quit and forcus at Janelle. I rejected after the thought over the night. To me, I not a person who can forcus on husband n child only. If ask me to just live for then in my life, i will not be happy. I do admit, I also not a career person who can work without family. I would like to have both to balance my life. Once a while I like to buy gucci, lv and also to dress up, put down make up to looks good.

Today with Janelle for her 2nd class.. Janelle situtation is worst then but I expected. At first I tot she is just slow. But looking at her now in the class, actually she is very slow. And she doesn't understand n react to instruction. She seems to be in her world of her own. Tell her this n that, she will ignore. She don't play.. Like press here, take this all she can't. She only bang bang bang...

Mummy now thinking if I need to give up my work for her.. To see her thru this stage?? Can maid do that??

Janelle's first day of school

5th April 2010, Monday

Janelle's first day of school...

Yesterday night while mummy is packing bag for janelle to school, then mummy realised that i didnt get her a school bag.. what a mummy of me.. had been engrossed with my drama series over the long weekend... going to get it tonight.

today's Janelle first day of school.. it's one teacher to one student.. Janelle has one classmate. and 2 teachers who are both so young and new.. hopefully they are patience enough to take care of such kids.. however the senior teacher are quite knowledgeable. but not sharp enough to tell what the kids can do or cannot do.. of cos, not many ppl can do so during that short 2 hrs class.

Daddy and mummy specially took leave to accompany Janelle for her first school... senior teacher brief us on what the class they will be having each week.. there will have swimming, art, music, softplay and for Janelle there will be physio..

Janelle was knock off during our journay home..
